Chinese Christians silenced as Olympics begin (OneNewsNow.com).
The Olympics is generating a huge amount of publicity for China – good and bad – but most of the press is not reporting persecution of Christians.
Johnny Li once was a persecuted Christian in China, but he was able to immigrate to the United States and is a spokesman for Open Doors USA. He says that Chinese throughout the world are excited. ”I’m a Chinese. We all celebrate Olympics game,” Li explains. “[For the] very first time, China [is] holding this international event.”
But members of the underground church in that country have been increasingly persecuted, apparently to silence them as China has its shining hour in the media. Li recently visited China talking with wives of two church leaders who are in prison. They report that persecution is unabated.
“Underground Bible school we visit[ed]. They have to hide in a very secret place and don’t know today [if] they can still operate, so there’s [sic] so many things going on,” Li adds. “It’s more than the news can tell you.”
Li asks Christians to intensify prayer for the underground church. He stresses that Chinese want more than economic reform as well as religious freedom.
