Yesterday, a grave thing happened – a ‘pro-lifer’ murdered an abortionist doctor known for preforming late-term abortions. This was a senseless act – one that hurts the dialog and indeed makes hypocrites out of many in the pro-life movement (of course, many in this movement still believe in the death penalty.)
First is a quote sited by Rev. P.T. McCain at the Cyberbrethren:
Whoever murdered George Tiller has done a gravely wicked thing. The evil of this action is in no way diminished by the blood George Tiller had on his own hands. No private individual had the right to execute judgment against him. We are a nation of laws. Lawless violence breeds only more lawless violence. Rightly or wrongly, George Tilller was acquitted by a jury of his peers. “Vengeance is mine, says the Lord.” For the sake of justice and right, the perpetrator of this evil deed must be prosecuted, convicted, and punished. By word and deed, let us teach that violence against abortionists is not the answer to the violence of abortion. Every human life is precious. George Tiller’s life was precious. We do not teach the wrongness of taking human life by wrongfully taking a human life. Let our “weapons” in the fight to defend the lives of abortion’s tiny victims, be chaste weapons of the spirit. -Robert George at National Review online.
Wickle, as always, is honest,
I wish that I thought his killer was a jealous husband, bookie, random shooter, or crazy person who just wanted a headline. I fear, though, that this is going to be (as I described it to my wife) one of us. I expect that we’ll find out that he calls himself pro-life, maybe he’s even some kind of Christian.
I hope not, but I have to be realistic about this.
Dr. Gayle, in a not-so-round about way, makes a very serious point (and here as well):
“Murder is Anger at anyone as close as your brother.” Murder is condeming speech in anger and curses even at your enemies. What if we didn’t read, and weren’t changed our listening to, them?
Dr. West gives it a good word – depravity
The anti-killers killed him at church… It’s one of the many things that 1) makes you scratch your head in wonderment and 2) gaze amazed into the face of human total depravity.
Then a new friend, Padre Steve, a Navy Chaplain and a Priest for the Episcopal Catholic “convergence Church,” begins a post:
How can people who are allegedly pro-life promote an attitude of belief that dehumanizes their opponents and tolerates uncivil and at times inflammatory rhetoric which crosses all bounds of Christian conduct, leading to the murder of other people? This happened today in a Kansas Church where Dr. George Tiller was gunned down in cold blood by someone at least on the fringe of the pro-life movement. I think the answer is found at least in some part in yesterday’s post on Gordon Klingenschmitt and what I term the “Klingenban.”
He goes on to site the accused murder of Dr. Tiller,
Scott Roeder Says:
May 19th, 2007 at 4:34 pmBleass everyone for attending and praying in May to bring justice to Tiller and the closing of his death camp.
Sometime soon, would it be feasible to organize as many people as possible to attend Tillers church (inside, not just outside) to have much more of a presence and possibly ask questions of the Pastor, Deacons, Elders and members while there? Doesn’t seem like it would hurt anything but bring more attention to Tiller.

Mon September 03, 2007, 09:49:40It seems as though what is happening in Kansas could be compared to the “lawlessness” which is spoken of in the Bible. Tiller is the concentration camp “Mengele” of our day and needs to be stopped before he and those who protect him bring judgement upon our nation.
Many others (here, here, here, here, here,- this list might continue to grow) are contributing to the call that this was an evil act by an evil man on another evil man. One who proclaimed life ended the life of another who brought death. While we too easily apply the word ‘evil’ to too many things, love as well, this act has done more damage than is readily seen.
There are many questions to be asked and statements to be issued, not in the least the quality of the man’s conviction who can take life so easily. A doctor who swears to uphold life; a man who swears to up hold life.
