I was speaking with a friend last night about the current crisis in Iran and I made mention of the change in world affairs that resulted from Iran’s change in direction which occurred in the late 1970’s. Can you imagine the result if this insurrection succeeds and what it will mean for the politics of the Middle East? Of the World?
The interest has been ablaze with the death of a single young woman, Neda Soltani. She has suddenly become the face of the young revolutionaries in Iran, and I have a feeling, for more beyond that country’s borders.
I do not supposed to know much and Islamic beliefs beyond the cross-sections against Christianity, but they do have a specific set of mourning rituals which many believe will serve as a catalyst in the coming weeks for more protesting against the government.
We now know that the battle cry of ‘Where’s My Vote’ is more than just propoganda, with officials stating that several towns (‘just 50′) have reported over 100% of the town’s population voting.
Now, Iran’s government are blaming ‘vandals’ for the deaths of those like Neda. I believe, and I hope, that we are seeing the end of this repressive regime – repressive against all those except the few which support it.
It may be that because of this young woman’s death, a single martyr whose voice was forever thundered by the silencing projectile of a man’s weapon, Iran will see democracy for the first time in her life.
I’ll ask no more than that which you can give, prayers.
