I do not mean that the household codes could not have originated from the Hebrew Bible, but that the household codes has something in common with the life that was upheld in the Empire at that time. I think that if the letter was indeed 3rd century, then it wouldn&#039;t play that much of a role in understanding 1st Timothy or the cultural contexts. It could be the other way around, actually.
