It’s finally here. Courtesy of Tyndale, I have a very nice review copy of the NLT Mosaic.
Encounter Christ on every continent and in every century of Christian History. A new genre of Bible—a weekly meditation Bible— Holy Bible: Mosaic is an invitation to experience Christ both in His word and in the responses of his people. Each week, as you reflect on guided Scripture readings aligned with the church seasons, you will receive a wealth of insight from historical and contemporary writings. Full-color artwork will engage the soul; quotes, hymns, prayers, and poems enhance the rich devotional experience. Also includes a Dictionary/Concordance, NLT word study system with Hebrew/ Greek dictionary. A beautiful layout of art and devotional content, and an online community and content (coming Fall 2009) will extend the experience.
Let me tell you, it is a very nice edition to any library. I’ll post some impressions later, but I want to announce a contest(s).
1.) I fully support Christian publishing houses. I fully support the NLT. I put my money where my mouth is, therefore I am running a 24 blog-a-thon (on 22 September) in honor of a this new edition which incorporates many voices from across the centuries and the miles. To incorporate voices from you – whether or not you are running a blog – if you will contribute a blog post, you will be entered into a context to receive FREE Mosaic from your humble blogger. The rules are simple:
- Write a blog post for me to use on the 22nd.
- It could be anything from a blog post you have already done (in which I will post a link and the first paragraph or so) to your favorite NLT passage to your thoughts about issues concerning the NLT (this means, you don’t have to be a blogger. Just email me your thoughts.)
- It must be NLT centered
It would be nice if you had an Amazon wishlist (if you don’t you can get one for free. Once you have it, put the Mosaic on your wishlist.) THIS IS NOT A REQUIREMENT.
2.) Tyndale has sent me a certificate (which saves shipping costs!) for a free NLT Mosaic.
- You have a a shot at two entries here – comment on this post and give me a reason why you want it and/or mention this post on your blog.
That is all the reader has to do – write a small comment, and you will be entered in to win one of two brand spanking new NLT Mosaics.
I feel that it is important to support Christian publishing houses who do care in making find bibles. From my experience with Tyndale, I have found that they do not mind the interaction, suggestions, shouts, yellings, and kind words from those of us who participate in their product. Further, I believe that their goal is making a fine Christian product – and I do support the NLT, ‘without controversy.’ So, dear readers, take part in this contest. You do not have to be a blogger to enter and win.

I’d like it for the simple reason that I used to rather dislike the NLT. I used it in High School but once I went to Bible College I stopped. I had no idea that it had been heavily revised until some TNIV/NLT apologist went ballistic on me in the comments section of Nick Norelli’s blog, and I’ve been curious about giving it a second chance and a read through ever since.
September 17th, 2009 9:14 pm
Are you secretly recruiting countless persons to launch an NLT-Only movement?
September 17th, 2009 9:16 pm
I shall write you a post, Joel, if you want. Do you want a common theme or topic?
September 18th, 2009 12:44 pm
I love the NLT but the Mosiac sounds just incredible, don’t win it I will probably buy it anyhoo.

I gave away 50 Metal Bibles featuring NLT a few years ago. It rocks! The kids to whom i gave them found NLT easy to understand and really LOVED the Metal cases
September 20th, 2009 12:20 pm
I like the word “mosaic”.
September 20th, 2009 12:25 pm
Enter me because my old NLT is so worn and a few pages are missing.
Otherwise, they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them. Ac 28:26-28….
September 20th, 2009 1:17 pm
I’ve never seen a NLT Bible before
September 20th, 2009 4:57 pm
If you don’t find a taker for the Bible, and if you think it’s a good one for scholarly reading, I wouldn’t mind it. The only one I still have is a KJV & it’s annoying.
September 20th, 2009 6:20 pm
Yes, please enter me. Thanks.

“But this precious treasure – this light and power that now shine within us – this is held in perishable containers, that is, in our weak bodies. So everyone can see that our glorious power is from God and is not our own.” (2 Cor. 4:7, NLT)
Fr. Robert
PS This is one of my favorite NLT verses.
No entry needed for me, however.

September 21st, 2009 12:09 pm
Lots of wording difference in Bibles..
psalm of David.
1 The Lord is my light and my salvation—
so why should I be afraid?
The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger,
so why should I tremble?
2 When evil people come to devour me,
when my enemies and foes attack me,
they will stumble and fall.
3 Though a mighty army surrounds me,
my heart will not be afraid.
Even if I am attacked,
I will remain confident.
4 The one thing I ask of the Lord—
the thing I seek most—
is to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,
delighting in the Lord’s perfections
and meditating in his Temple.
5 For he will conceal me there when troubles come;
he will hide me in his sanctuary.
He will place me out of reach on a high rock.
6 Then I will hold my head high
above my enemies who surround me.
At his sanctuary I will offer sacrifices with shouts of joy,
singing and praising the Lord with music.
7 Hear me as I pray, O Lord.
Be merciful and answer me!
8 My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.”
And my heart responds, “Lord, I am coming.”
9 Do not turn your back on me.
Do not reject your servant in anger.
You have always been my helper.
Don’t leave me now; don’t abandon me,
O God of my salvation!
10 Even if my father and mother abandon me,
the Lord will hold me close.
11 Teach me how to live, O Lord.
Lead me along the right path,
for my enemies are waiting for me.
12 Do not let me fall into their hands.
For they accuse me of things I’ve never done;
with every breath they threaten me with violence.
13 Yet I am confident I will see the Lord’s goodness
while I am here in the land of the living.
14 Wait patiently for the Lord.
Be brave and courageous.
Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.

September 17th, 2009 9:15 pm
Jeremiah, you are in. I like the NLT for a variety of reasons – and yes, it is more literal in 2004 than 1996. Plus, the new Mosaic has some really great material included.
September 17th, 2009 9:19 pm
Shhh…..
September 17th, 2009 9:21 pm
Seriously, I like the premise of the Mosaic, and I like Tyndale.
September 17th, 2009 9:21 pm
Something dealing with NTL – dynamic equivilance, translating bothers and sisters….
You can email if you like for more ideas
September 17th, 2009 10:19 pm
Consider it done. Do I post it on my blog, or email it to you to be posted here?
September 17th, 2009 11:09 pm
I’m not sure if I’ll be able to write any posts but I have my NLT Study Bible Review Roundup and other NLTSB posts but I don’t know if those would be appropriate. I also have some 96-2007 comparisons.
I’d love this Bible for the wealth of quotes and I like the fact that it’s a weekly devotional. A daily devotional is more than what I want because I do so many other devotional type things every day.

September 20th, 2009 7:06 pm
I’ll use it!
September 20th, 2009 7:23 pm
i just entered because you told me to. I’ve got a couple of NLTs and more bibles than i need. Besides, I’m a Message man myself. Should I win give it to Robert. B-D
September 20th, 2009 7:31 pm
I hope everyone enters. I’ve shared it around enough
September 20th, 2009 9:44 pm
Thanks, Deb.
September 20th, 2009 10:24 pm
It depends on the MSS, Garry. The NIV uses the UBS while say, the KJV uses the TR.
September 21st, 2009 12:48 pm
Indeed, Deb – it is a matter of translation and styles, as even the KJV Translators noted in their preface.
Therefore as S. Augustine saith, that variety
of translations is profitable for finding out of the sense of the Scriptures:
so diversity of signification and sense in the margin, where the text is not so
clear, must needs do good; yea, is necessary, as we are persuaded.…They
that are wise had rather have their judgments at liberty in difference of
readings, than to be captivated to one, when it may be the other
September 22nd, 2009 5:40 pm
Nope. I’ll post it this evening. Thanks Gary!
