As you read this, no doubt some will say that I am looking at this wrong, or that perhaps its a worldview problem, etc… but I have stated the issue. Research if you must further.
Uganda already punished gay intimacy with life in prison. But, apparently that was not harsh enough, with this bill penalizing anyone who “attempts to commit the offence” with up to seven years in jail. Additionally, a person charged will be forced to undergo an invasive medical examination to determine their HIV status. If the detainees are found to be HIV+, they may be executed.
Snitching is also promoted, making it illegal not to report the offense within 24 hours.
Sadly, this witch-hunt has the blood stained fingerprints of leading American evangelicals. The Fellowship, (aka The Family) one of America’s most powerful and secretive fundamentalist organization’s, converted Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni ….. to its anti-gay brand of Christianity, which is the “intellectual” impetus behind the anti-gay crackdown. The clandestine organization’s leader, Doug Coe, calls Museveni The Fellowship’s “key man” in Africa. Jeff Sharlet, author of “The Family”, writes of the African strongman’s conversion:
“So,” Doug Coe told us, “my friend said to the president, ‘why don’t you come and pray with me in America? I have a good group of friends—senators, congressmen—who I like to pray with, and they’d like to pray with you.’ And that president came to the Cedars (a religious retreat), and he met Jesus. And his name is Yoweri Museveni…And he is a good friend of the Family.”
Is this the vision of American that you have? Do you think we should bring these types of laws here?

Truth Wins Out – American Evangelicals Play Role In Uganda Effort To ‘Wipe Out’ Gays.
From here:
The multiple laws that I will be breaking as soon as the president signs this law. Well, our detractors had already said that we would be stiffed with a tougher law, but this goes way beyond that. If I attempt to commit the offense… (god, the number of times that I have made passes and they have been rejected!) Each of those times was worth 7 years in jail. Good heavens!!!! Before, we could be liable to life imprisonment. gug hereby declares that, when the President of the Republic signs this law, gug will be liable to the death penalty… because I and my lover are serial offenders, breaking this law.
And from here:
While there are many cultural forces which oppose homosexuality in Uganda, a dominant one currently is the evangelical church. Most recently, in March of this year, three Americans were recruited by the Uganda-based Family Life Network to speak at workshops on ways to change people from gay to straight. Two of the Americans, Caleb Brundidge and Scott Lively, spoke in favor of keeping homosexuality illegal but giving those convicted an option of therapy to cure them of their gayness. Both Brundidge and Lively spoke to the Ugandan parliament regarding their views and reinforced the idea that homosexuality is learned and curable. Their ideas took hold. The proposed bill bases the need for stronger regulation on the concept that “same sex attraction is not an innate and immutable characteristic.”
The other American who spoke in Kampala, Don Schmierer, is a board member with Exodus International, the leading Christian ministry which helps same-sex attracted people affirm traditional Christian doctrine regarding homosexual behavior. However, just yesterday, Exodus International denounced the legislation as “horrible legislation” and “hateful public policy.” Critics of Exodus complain that the organization should have denounced the original trip to Uganda. At least Exodus has spoken out against the Ugandan proposal; Brundidge’s International Healing Foundation and Lively’s Defend the Family International defended the Ugandan mission and have been mute regarding the proposed law.
Another American Influence in Uganda has been the American war on AIDS. Specifically, Rick Warren’s Saddleback church has invested heavily in Uganda and declared it a “Purpose Driven Nation.” A major figure in Uganda endorsed by Saddleback is Martin Ssempa. Ssempa has been quoted as being opposed to homosexuality. He has been accused of publishing the names of suspected homosexuals in local newspapers, sending homosexuals into hiding. Mr. Ssempa has three email addresses on the Internet and I tried them all three times in order to ask his view of the proposed legislation. However, he has not replied.

Nice new changes to your website! Thanks for the post on mine too
Sorry it has taken me so long to drop by again. I do not have internet where I live, so my “internet surfing” is pretty much limited to checking my email whenever I get a signal…before it fades away and leaves me with zero bars
I know I need to find a better solution for this…. good to see you still posting!!!

Alexandra! I was just wondering what had happened to you! How is life in the big city?
October 21st, 2009 8:35 am
No, this is great! Let’s get those laws here!
And then we can go back to stoning people for adultery, executing kids who have sex before they’re married, and so on.
It would be great, though, if we could get a head start on putting together that legal code, rather than having to start from scratch.
Do you suppose that we could borrow the Sharia law from the Taliban?

Awesome point, Wickle! American Christians only *think* they want a theocracy… Wait ’til they get one, but the theology isn’t *theirs*–then they’ll be pissed.

Hi.
This is really interesting. I have been following up the issue of anti-homosexuality and lesbianism bill in Uganda.
The world should understand that in Africa (except for the parts that have been utterly undressed of their true identity and cultural pride), homosexuality and lesbianism as bad as genital mutilation, murder, rape and defilement. In fact, it’s worse. If people must be punished for capital offenses, they must be equally punished for this violation of the laws of Nature.
It is Western fundamentalists and African sycophants of the West that promote sodomy in Africa. **content removed**
Surely, if this is the battle Sempa Martin is fighting, so be it. A massive number of Ugandans are equally alarmed by the inhuman act and are not going to rest until they kick all sodomy out of Uganda.
It is an alarming moral evil to defend a social evil. Those who defend homosexuality imposition in Uganda in the name of brotherhood must equally be held responsible for the damages caused to our children in schools. Whoever is of such sick ideologies MUST NOT come to Uganda. WE WILL ARREST YOU!!! And this is not a threat, its the reality. As a matter of fact, all sane Ugandans can’t wait for this bill to go through. And it must.
Polio was kicked out of Uganda, now, We must Kick Sodomy out of Uganda.

Homosexuality was a part of Ugandan culture before Christian missionaries arrived. Heterosexual Ugandan men have no business throwing stones because of the prevalence of polygamy in their culture.
As for the way you heterosexual Ugandans treat gays, you can do without foreign aid. Let you and your children starve for the atrocities you commit.

“As for the way you heterosexual Ugandans treat gays, you can do without foreign aid. Let you and your children starve for the atrocities you commit.”
Is Aid to Africa tied with strings that Africans must accept Homosexuality as part of their social fabric? Why bring kids and starving in the picture? Is this not real hate and vengeance simply because Africans are not accepting openly Gay folks?

Kato, you are doing more than just “not accepting homosexuals” you are making them social pariahs. If this bill ends up passing just someone accused of homosexuality can be arrested for 7 years. Not only this but people who have AIDS will likely be executed on the spot. I am not violating Godwin’s Law when I say that those are Nazi ass policies because they are.
You and Ken have obviously been severely mis-educated as to what homosexuality actually is. This is no doubt because of the hate that is being spread by American evangelicals that have been spreading this poison for many decades, among other social factors that are better explained in history books.
I truly apologize for what my country has done and continues to do to yours, it’s a savage injustice that must be remedied immediately.

This basically is a declaration of war, if its bloodshed they want, its bloodshed they’ll likely get. But dont for a minute think the bloodshed will be restricted to the queers. History has shown, bigotry and prejudice has a way of spreading like wildfire once the match is lit – and though the cult of christianity is doing well for itself today, the wheel of history has been going round and round long enough to predict… today you’re on top, tomorrow you’re getting put to death for your christian perversions. Full circle.. And so it goes.

That’s my opinion as well. During the Reformation, how many Protestants killed each other over the differences? Too many. Once it starts, it does not end.
