Just found these videos last night. Great intro to evolutionary biology as legitimate science. They also touch on the chromosome and vitamin C issues I mentioned above.

Darwinism never said we evolved from monkeys but rather monkey and humans have a common ancestor.

This, Rick, is an entirely correct statement regarding what evolutionary theory teaches. Sadly, most people don't seem to be able (or want to) grasp this concept. Questions like "If we evolved from monkeys, why are there still monkeys?" make me want to cringe.

The problem is that there’s no way to validate something this old as an ancestor to human. Because it’s a primate and we’re technically primates and because it’s old, lots of guesswork is made to link it to us. But if you look at the actual cranial structure, common sense says it’s an extinct ape.

As you say, there is a considerable amount of guesswork in this line of work, if only because of the significant lack of primate fossils, human or otherwise. However, let's stop looking at JUST the cranial structure and look at the pelvis, which gives considerable evidence for bipedality, something never seen before in concert with opposable toes. An interesting find, to say the least. The recent Discovery Channel special on Ardi made very clear that there are numerous lines of evidence taken into account, allowing us to declare it's "location" along the evolutionary tree branch leading to human beings with confidence.

Modern science has proved that through recent DNA testing. We have neanderthal bones recent enough to show that this species and humans overlapped. But DNA tests reveal that humans and neanderthals are not related. DNA testing proved that not only did we not “evolve” from them; we also never interbred with them.

And this, Rick, is where you're misstating things. Modern science and DNA analysis HAVE proven that Neanderthals and modern homo sapiens sapiens ARE related, albeit not directly. They are evolutionary cousins. You are correct, however, that the same DNA evidence also reveals that we never interbred with them, at least to the degree that none of their progeny survived.

The next likely candidate is homo erectus, but these have also been proven not to relate to humans.

Again, you misuse the word "related." Are you not related to your cousin? Of course, but not directly. That being said, scientists believe that Homo erectus is indeed related to modern humans and most likely directly. The question now is where Homo habilis fits into the family tree.

The evidence points to special creation of homo sapians sapians, but they continue to look for some other explanation denying what is right in front of their noses.

Now this is where I start to roll my eyes, for the evidence is not just in front of your nose. It's IN your nose, that is, in your DNA. Are you familiar, Rick, with your #2 chromosome? Special creation of Homo sapiens sapiens would not leave evidence of a fusion of two previously separate chromosomes, the act of which left us with 23 pairs of chromosomes instead of the 24 pairs possessed by the great apes. Special creation of humans would also fail to explain why, on a number of occasions, humans are born with tails, which we do possess for a brief time as an embryo (WHY?). Of course, the genes which control tail development (yes, we all have the genes to create tails!) switch off almost as quickly as they turned on. Special creation of humans also fail to explain why we, along with the rest of the great apes, have the genes to synthesize vitamin C but can't. That's because the same gene of the three necessary for the body to synthesize vitamin C is switched off due to mutation—strong evidence of common descent, as the mutation likely occurred in an environment in which there were plenty of vitamin C-rich food sources, making the mutation "neutral" for the environment in which our common ancestor lived and allowing for the mutation to become nearly universal (which it eventually did). If God meant for humans not to synthesize vitamin C within our own bodies, why on earth would he have given us the genes to do so?

Of course, popular opinion and popular press seems to always get this wrong. Darwinism never said we evolved from monkeys but rather monkey and humans have a common ancestor.
