Big News From the IAA At Nazareth? Did they find Mary’s House?

Category: Religious NewsPolycarp @ 12:59 pm

I’ve missed a lot while I’ve been without power. First, the good Doctor points us here:

This morning the IAA’s Spokesperson circulated a notice to journalists inviting them to a Press Conference to be held tomorrow morning, December 21, at which “The IAA will Reveal a New Archeological Find in Nazareth”. The meeting point will be behind the Church of the Annunciation, next to the upper entrance to the old school of Saint Joseph at 10:20 AM. The notice does not give a hint of what that “New Archeological find” is, although I suspect that some list recipients are in the know (and some might think that it may have something to do with a fast-approaching date on the calendar).

And then the story starts to break, maybe?

Israeli archaeologists have uncovered a home dating to the time of Jesus in the town of Nazareth where he is said to have spent the better part of his life, the antiquities authority said on Monday. … “The discovery is of the utmost importance since it reveals for the very first time a house from the Jewish village of Nazareth and thereby sheds light on the way of life at the time of Jesus,” Yardenna Alexandre, who is heading the excavation, said in a statement. “The building that we found is small and modest, and it is most likely typical of the dwellings in Nazareth in that period.”

no not Mary’s house. Although it appears excavations were conducted on the authority of the Israeli Antiquities, presumably not Christians, they can’t be debunked as Christian bias or forgery – haha to you stupid jesus and Nazareth mythers. However it’s a shame they chose to wait to reveal the findings til Christmas. And it’s a shame they had to say the NT says that Jesus comes from Nazareth as this is misleading. This only encourages the sensationalist gutter rags to link it with Jesus’ home, and also encourages the silly mythers to dismiss it. Never mind, I’ve just read a draft of a section in a certain forthcoming volume which debunks the mythers with argument and evidence not even attempted by the amateurs being refuted.
