Elvis – The Birthday

Category: Other PostsPolycarp @ 10:55 am

Today is the 75th birthday of Elvis. Now, not being as old as some folks – he died just a few months before I was born – I was introduced to his music by others. For me, since I don’t listen to secular, worldly, ungodly music, I only listen go Gospel, and Elvis is the best. I love his gospel, and wonder what might have happened, had he pursued that career instead.

Here are a few of my favorite songs:

His ex-wife seems to thin he would have been a minister.

I love Elvis’ gospel. I sing many Elvis songs in Church. I’ve often used Reach out to Jesus as an alter-call song. In Church I also sing Without Him, Who am I? (mine is a little faster), By and By, and many others. I’ve also sung his versions of Amazing Grace and How Great Thou Art. I sing more at home than I do in Church because there are so many different songs to sing and only so many opportunities to sing in Church. At home I sing many more including Put Your Hand in the Hand, Let Us Pray, Why Me Lord?, If That Isn’t Love, etc. I was 10 when Elvis died. It’s one of those things that I remember where I was when I heard the news. I’ve also wondered what it would have been like if he would have sung only gospel music.

I note that Elvis was pentecostal, AOG, mainly.

When my daughter was born, and first home from the hospital, we listened to the Gaither Elvis and that’s how she would go to sleep for months.

There is a story that Elvis was reading ‘The Scientific Search For Jesus’ just before he went to Heaven. In the midst of his problems it appears he was reaching out to Jesus.
