It’s not lying, it’s hyperbole

Category: Other PostsPolycarp @ 7:58 pm

In our postmodern culture, we tend to replace what God says with our own jurisprudence. We redefine things and relabel them to rid our selves of the duty to live up to God’s commands.

For instance, lying is now hyperbole (hi-per-bowl). I figure, that with this example, we can now redefine a lot of things.

  • Adultery/Fornication = hyperbolic libido
  • Vulgarity in Language = hyperbolic adjectives
  • Cheating/Stealing = hyperbolic realignment of goods and/or services
  • Atheism = hyperbolic misunderstanding of one’s place in the world
  • Jealousy/envy = Hyperbolic fantasy
  • Idolatry/taking God’s name in vain = hyperbolic worship
  • Murder = hyperbolic conservation of natural resources
  • Lust = hyperbolic eye-darting
  • Anger/hate = hyperbolic love
  • Name calling = hyperbolic reassignment of either gender or ethnicity to hide self-doubts about both
  • Bragging = hyperbolic self-inflation without substantial proof
  • Gossip = hyperbolic story telling
  • Sexism/Ageism/Racism = hyperbolic denial of an inferiority complex
  • Internet Troll = hyperbolic combination of all of the above

Isn’t post-modernism grand?

This is what hyperbole really is

  1. oinonio says:

And “god” isn’t hyperbole of man, writ large? God is the ultimate hyperbole…

    • Polycarp says:

      No, not at all.

      • USAtheist says:

God is indeed hyperbole. (Which is “Hi-per-bo-lee”, not “hyperbowl”)

Ever characteristic of god is exaggerated to absurd proportion: He’s not just smart, he knows EVERYTHING; he’s not just with you, he’s with EVERYONE, ad nauseum. He’s the ultimate group-think superego construct.

        It’s retarded.
