Boethius on the Unity of God
Thought that this might be interesting. While looking West, I find that they were much more focused on the Unity, while the East, even now, seems to be focused on the Plurality.

Philosophy and Theological Terms
Found this the other day -
For example, the Greek word we translate as “person” is prosopon, or mask. This term was used in the Greek theater to denote the different characters played by one actor. A single actor would hold a mask in each hand and shift the masks in front of his face to say his lines, indicating that the lines were being said by different characters. Applying this term to God, the Blessed Trinity, we arrive at a single actor (God) using three masks (Father, Son, Holy Spirit). Same actor, different characters. Ultimately, this metaphor is woefully inadequate for expressing the deepest truth of the Trinity. Yet, we still say that the Trinity is three divine persons, one God. “Person” as a philosophical term used to describe a theological truth had to be developed.
Okay, if it is so ”woefully inadequate” then why were the words used in the bible?

The Development of Christology
The esteemable blogger, Mike Koke, lists three views on the development of Christology. Can you guess which one I would fall into? The winner receives 1,000,000 Joeldom dollars, roughly equal to just the other side of nothing. Anyway, check out his post.

Discussions on the Spirit in the Blogosphere
For those of you who are interested in such things, some corners of the blogosphere is abuzz with talk of the S/spirit in the early church. First, Charles Sullivan is doing a wonderful work in bringing to light ’speaking in tongues’ in the early Church.
As a break from Chapter 6 concerning the work of Epiphanius, I have posted these three chapters which cover the purpose and methodology of this publication.
It is posted on Scribd’s site here
It will be available here in html format when time permits.
I am interested in reading this when he is finished. Further, Dr. West is speaking to us from the dead, through Brian, with his review of Levinson’s book, Filled with the Spirit.
And finally, T.C. Robinson brings to light a discussion about the neglect of the Spirit today.
I find these discussion important for a variety of reasons, but more on that later.

Bauckham and Christology
I am currently reading a book of Bauckham’s essays, which I hope to review sometime this week, and have found him to be up my ally, so to speak not only on 2nd Temple Judaism (yes, I can hear someone saying now about his ‘flawed’ methodology) and his High Christology. For preperation, please take a gander at this post and discussion:

Jesus is God – A Biblical Portrait
Not a bad list, really (The credit is at the bottom of the page).
So often, we here how the the deity of Christ was developed, etc… but we find it as a constant theme in the New Testament, don’t we?

2nd Peter 1.1-2, Two or One?
This post is directly related to one over the weekend in which I was asked about this passage of Scripture. This deals only with the theology of 2nd Peter, primarily – I hope – from a translation standpoint.
I will consider the ESV as the standard for literalism, and NLT/GWN as the standard for thought for thought:
