The Nicene Creed and Messianic Judaism

Category: Creeds, Messianic JudaismPolycarp @ 11:59 am

We are repairing the broken pieces, standing between church creeds and rabbinic discussions, and trying to make them whole.

So says this post. You might want to read the entire thing, which is an interesting take on the Nicene Creed.

2012 – Sham or bam?

Category: False Prophets, Messianic Judaism, ProphecyRory Roybal @ 8:39 am

There’s an avalanche of hype about 2012, but is it just another sham or the beginning of the end?

In addition to the well-publicized ‘last date’ of the Mayan calendar cycle, some claim the Jewish Kabbalah books of Zohar predict the beginning of the seven year tribulation at the same time, as well as a prophecy by the Catholic ‘Saint Malachy’ about the next Pope being the final one.

However, Christ said that before the Great Tribulation, “many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many” (Matt. 24:11).

You pick it.

More on Seismic Shock and Police Intimidation

Category: Blogging, Messianic JudaismPolycarp @ 2:50 pm

As a blogger, censoring generally worries me. You can read my first post here. Roger Pearse (who by the way, is the keenest blogger on Patristics) has posted a reply from one of those who is accused of using the police to intimidate a blogger. Further, Roger has a few more updates, one form Seismic Shock and a final one from Anthony McRoy. Decide for yourselves.

And you might want to check out Stuart’s blog as well and some religious notes on the matter.

Blogger Faces Intimidation Tactics from Anglican Priest

Category: Blogging, Messianic JudaismPolycarp @ 9:59 am

A blogger, Seismic Shock who is trying to expose an Anglican priest and his associations to what he deems extremists is now being targeted with police complaints from said priest, Stephen Sizer.

(Context: Sizer has associated with some very nasty terrorists and Holocaust deniers; McRoy has delivered a paper at a Khomeinist theological conference in Iran comparing Hezbollah’s struggle against Israel via suicide bombing with the Christian’s struggle against sin via the atoning death of Jesus, and describes the world’s most prominent Holocaust denier as an “intelligent, humble, charismatic, and charming” man who “gives quick, extensive and intelligent answers to any question, mixed with genial humour”).

Thanks to Stuart for this info. (See here and here).

Wow.

From Judaism to Christianity

Category: Messianic JudaismPolycarp @ 12:59 pm

Thanks to Stuart for this article:

For thousands of people who convert to Judaism, Christmas is a difficult day of balancing what was once intimately theirs but now represents, in some ways, the essence of what they are giving up. The holiday brings up questions that often have less to do with theology than with culture and custom. Siblings wonder: Can we still give you gifts? Parents ask: Can I still fill your stocking? If the answers are no, does that signal something akin to betrayal?

Zionism is the problem

Category: Messianic JudaismPolycarp @ 12:59 pm

It’s hard to imagine now, but in 1944, six years after Kristallnacht, Lessing J. Rosenwald, president of the American Council for Judaism, felt comfortable equating the Zionist ideal of Jewish statehood with “the concept of a racial state — the Hitlerian concept.” For most of the last century, a principled opposition to Zionism was a mainstream stance within American Judaism.

It just goes on from there.

Will Israel Return to the Law of Moses?

Category: Messianic JudaismPolycarp @ 8:59 am

Things seem to be rolling for something big, politically speaking, next year in Israel.

Justice Minister Yaakov Neeman took to the Knesset podium Tuesday to try to calm the political storm he caused this week when he said that “step by step, Torah law will become the binding law in the State of Israel.” Neeman made his controversial remarks Monday evening at a convention on Jewish law in Jerusalem.

Hanukkah, biblically known as the Feast of Dedication

Category: Maccabees, Messianic JudaismPolycarp @ 6:59 pm

Sun down on Sunday evening begins the Jewish celebration of Hanukkah, or Chanukah for the Jewish among us. Category: Messianic JudaismPolycarp @ 7:59 pm
TRANSCENDING the bitterness of the confrontation between their nations and faiths, Israeli and Palestinian scholars have come together for an unprecedented joint history of the most contested religious site on earth.
