A while ago, I got into collecting antique books. I have some of Tholuck’s 1st edition English commentaries and some antique bibles, but those were sought after. In a local used book store, a few years ago, I found an 1834 copy of Goethe’s Faust by Blackie. Then I found one a set from the early 1800’s as well for a small encyclopedia of the Reformation. Just thought I would share:

Pray for IMonk: Michael Spencer
Friends, please keep Michael Spencer and his family in your prayers.
This is the beginning of a message from his wife,
It is with a heavy heart that I bring my latest update on Michael. We have learned that his cancer is too advanced and too aggressive to expect any sort of remission. Our oncologist estimates that with continued treatment Michael most likely has somewhere between six months and a year to live. This is not really a surprise to us, though it is certainly horrible news. From the very beginning, both of us have suspected that this would prove to be an extremely bad situation. I don’t know why; perhaps God was preparing us for the worst all along by giving us that intuition.
If you can donate, please do so (the link is on their website). And you know what, please pre-order his book.

Undepraved – Palestinian Sees Lesson Translating an Israeli’s Work
There is really a lot of good news in the world today, my friends, and we really should try to highlight that instead of focusing in on the bad as if to try to prove some silly theological point made previously by people who are long dead and frankly, by now, know better. ‘Undepraved’ ain’t the right word, granted, but you know what I mean -

Jeremy Thompson takes on Lostiobloggers
Jeremy is welcome to take me on, and drag my precious name through the mugd, but then he goes on to take swipes at real bibliobloggers, such as James McGrath, for his focus on Lost.
You might want to check and see if Lost or some other lame television show is on. If there’s one thing BiblioBloggers care about more than anything, even your feelings, it’s Lost.
Now, I am offended that Jeremy would do such things and say such things as to associate Lost with a lame television show. Lost is not lame. I mean, you have, Ben Linus, Claire Littleton, Desmond Hume, Frank Lapidus, Hugo “Hurley” Reyes, Ilana, Jack Shephard, James “Sawyer” Ford, Jin-Soo Kwon, and John Locke. That’s not lame!
Now, some of you may think that I am taking this time to put all these names on my page to get hits. Far from it. I am chastising Jeremy for speaking evil of Lost. I don’t want him to be lost when it comes to Lost. Lost is a mythic show, that unless you catch from the beginning, you might get lost. No, Jeremy, Lost is not a lame television show. And sometimes, Lost fans need someone to explain Lost or they might get lost, so there.
Lost.

Jeremy Thompson, Biblioblogger to the Stars
Jeremy Thompson is a fine biblioblogger, staying true to form as a biblioblogger and not separating theology from it. He is focused, dedicated, ethical, and generally an all around nice guy. See his post here, about loving your neighbor. The way I figure it, Jeremy is my neighbor, with him being number 2 and all. And I know that he is neighborly.
What? Wait, he did what? He has a coffee mug for me? See, this is what I am saying – Jeremy is a fine, outstanding, biblioblogger. He is starting a brand, featuring me. This is just awesome.

Thoughts On The Will – J. H. Oliphant
Thanks to a reader, I thought I might share with you the writings of J.H. Oliphant:
Elder J. H. Oliphant of Crawfordsville, Indiana, was one of the most useful and able ministers that ever bore the name of Primitive Baptist. Indeed, few men have ever lived that have penned or published to the world the glorious doctrine of salvation by grace with more beauty and in all its fullness. One whose life has been a splendid example of true piety, sober mindedness, spotless integrity, and devoted service.
He was a very prolific writer who penned several books and was a contributing editor for several periodicals. He was noted for his clear, logical and concise style of writing. His books and articles are still read and coveted by people today.

My Son and The Icicle
It has snowed since June here, or rather, it has felt that way. In my opinion, I think it is time to go preemptive and kill all the groundhogs. February 1st 2011 is the deadline….
This is a picture I took this morning on our back doorstep. The snow was 6 plus inches, but we do live on top of a mountain. This was the longest icicle.

Pray for Chile, Hawaii, Japan and us all – Evac Info
Seems that all those nice quite fault lines in the Western Hemisphere are waking up. Chile suffered an 8.8 one this morning. Japan as well.
Also, a tsunami warning has been issued for Hawaii for about 5 hours from the posting of this.
