Admittedly, we live in a world where people worry more about Star Trek Canon (and something called star Wars or something like that) than they do about the natures of things eternal – so, while I do not pretend to like contemporize Christianity, I found this slightly humorous.
Biblical Minimalism, as I understand it, essentially denies the historical value of the Old Testament. I’ve been thinking – not always a good thing – but what if the biblical minimalists are right on some level? (I do not hold their views) Is there a stopping point to biblical minimalism.
In one of the most riveting stand-offs in Judeo-Christian scriptural understanding, a single comma in Genesis might determine whether the Old Testament prophesies the New Testament—or not. The circumstances pertain to the complex and heartbreaking account known as “The Akedah” (the Binding)—the near-sacrifice of the lad Isaac by his father, Abraham.
Hebron, West Bank – In the divided city of Hebron, Jews toss slips of paper with handwritten prayers into a room over the traditional burial place of Abraham. At the same site, Muslims raise their hands into the air invoking the name of Ibrahim. Both are revering the same forefather.
In a city inflamed with animosity between Jew and Arab, a delicate balance of power keeps passions in check at the site known to Jews as the Tomb of the Patriarchs and to Muslims as the Ibrahimi Mosque.
PJ Miller alerts us to the false prophets of Joel’s Army. Here, here, and here. I for one appreciate PJ and his warnings. We will not win the fight here – well, not yet anyway – but we can perhaps warn a soul or two away from what is obviously satanic practices masquerading as the Church.
Here are excerpts.
The Origin of ICA
The International Coalition of Apostles (ICA) was conceived by a group of apostles who gathered informally in Singapore in 1999. John Kelly agreed to establish an office in Dallas, Texas, to organize a council and to begin to invite apostles to join ICA. He then asked C. Peter Wagner to assume overall leadership of ICA as Presiding Apostle. In early 2001, the office was moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado, under Wagner’s supervision. John Kelly continues to serve ICA as Ambassadorial Apostle, working out of his Dallas office.
Membership
Membership in ICA is restricted to individuals who have been recognized by a significant segment of the church, including peer-level apostles, as having the gift and office of apostle and who have been ministering through this gift for a period of time. It is not intended to be a training ground for would-be or “emerging” apostles, but rather it should be seen as a professional society in which confirmed apostles are able to relate to and connect with each other. “The New Apostolic Reformation is an extraordinary work of the Holy Spirit that is changing the shape of Christianity globally. It is truly a new day! The Church is changing. New names! New methods! New worship expressions. The Lord IS ESTABLISHING THE FOUNDATIONS OF THE CHURCH FOR THE NEW MILLENIUM. THIS FOUNDATION IS BUILT UPON APOSTLES AND PROPHETS…” Peter Wagner, Apostles and Prophets Conference in February 2000
” . . . a supernatural generation..Two thousand years of miracle workers and seers crammed into one generation. The fiery bowls of heaven are being poured out through an extreme body of spiritual forerunners”
quote..
Every era has produced extreme spiritual forerunners who have accessed the atmosphere of heaven, demonstrating miracles, signs, wonders and supernatural experiences in their lives. Beginning with the first century apostles, the extraordinary report of God’s kingdom has passed like a baton to the early Desert Fathers, the Christian mystics of the Dark Ages, right up through the healing revivalists and prophetic voices of the past century.
But God has reserved the greatest wave of his Spirit for a radical, postmodern generation that will walk the earth in these last days. The stories of long-forgotten saints are an arsenal for this hour. Fiery men with divine encounters and heavenly visitations. Their individual lives serve as a blueprint for an entire company of warriors who will wear those same ancient power mantles, perform the same bizarre feats and achieve even greater exploits to bring in the end-time harvest of souls.
From one of Andrew Stroms recent newsletters–a warning:
WHO ARE the “NEW MYSTICS”?
Since I am hoping this may be our last post about Lakeland for
awhile, I need to put forth a very specific warning about certain
ministries while I have the chance. Todd Bentley has long been
numbered among the ‘New Mystics’ in the Prophetic movement -
but there are others that I need to warn about also. These are
literally the most dangerous ministries (operating in a strange
“power”) that I have ever come across in the Christian church.
That is the only reason why I feel I must “name names” in this
email – and I do so with great sadness.
The first of them is Jill Austin - from ‘Master Potter’ ministries.
I have seen her live in person, and sadly I regard her as one of the
most dangerous of all. A minister from England described one of
her meetings as follows: “The weirdest three hours I have ever had
to endure… she spoke of the times that she meets with the Angel
Gabriel and other spiritual beings, next we moved on to portals
between this world and the next and then finally to how she was
going to open up a portal to Heaven in the room that we were all in.
Now things started to happen, really crazy things and strange
noises… As [she] moved around the room ministering to individual
people they were crashing to the ground, bouncing up and down,
running around as if on fire and making all sorts of sounds… My
Vineyard friend was the first to crash to the floor. Since that day
his church has taken on a different guise, it is not the same
church any more.”
In a very similar vein is Patricia King - who operates in the same
area of “portals”, jewels, ‘angels’, drunken jerking, etc. There is
real power in a lot of this – and I urge people to stay well clear.
John Crowder is another one. With his ‘Drunken Glory’ tours and
his “toking the ghost” and every other deceived thing – you cannot
even imagine how “off-beam” this guy is. Words sadly fail me.
And then there are the “fellow travellers” – men like Ben Dunn, Dave
Vaughan, Justin Abraham, Joshua Mills and many others who have
imbibed of the same weird spirit out of Toronto and the Prophetic
movement. It is just awful what is going on out there. So sad.
It is tragic to have to put out warnings like this, but my hope and
prayer is that it will prevent great harm from coming to Christ’s
precious sheep. I hope you can hear my heart in this, my friends.
“I was always brought up to believe that the minute Abraham and the patriarchs came on the scene, the Israelites accepted one God and there was just always one God and that was it,”
Meaning that she was brought up with little or no biblical instruction. Although Abraham was a monotheist, Israel flirted with polytheism for centuries and had to constantly be called back into the worship of the True God. So, I guess any ‘facts’ might actually shock her.
In attacking Abraham, they go beyond Christ or Mohammad; they seek to destroy the very foundation of all the monotheistic Abrahamic faiths. Granted, I do not see an legitimacy in Islam, but in undermining Abraham, they are attempting to kill off all three religions.
Abraham is the single person that must exist for Judaim to be trure. If Judaism is not a true faith (let’s skip supercessionism at the moment), then Christianity is a hoax and a sham. Speaking out side of of Faith for a moment, if Abraham is proved to be a myth, then the great call to leave a homeland for a promise of a redeemer is false. If the call is false, then the children of Israel as slaves in Egypt were little more than vagabonds and a colony of escaped convicts. If these people were not chosen by God to recieve the promises of Abraham, then the Law is a man-made priestly code derived by imaginations. If the Law is thus stripped it’s divine origin, then we have no school master and no real need for an atoning sacrifice. If there is no need for an atoning sacrifice, then their is no need for a Messiah. No, Messiah, no Cross, and no Christianity.
