A Call For Women Bibliobloggers

Category: Biblioblogging, Gender Issues, TechnologyPolycarp @ 7:59 pm

One of the things that I have discovered that I enjoy is exploring different views – really want to explore Asian views of the Gospel story. Recently, there has been some hubbub about the lack of women bibliobloggers. April DeConick posits that they are simply invisible. To combat this, the Biblioblog list has called for submissions from women bibliobloggers. Dr. Gayle has returned to not blog about it and published his previous blogroll.

Just though you should know….

A Note about my Blogroll

Category: Blogging, TechnologyPolycarp @ 8:41 pm

Someone noticed that I had dropped them from my blogroll. I didn’t, I promise, but if you see that you are suddenly no longer on my blogroll, please let me know. I rarely remove anyone because I treat my blogroll like it’s important – I do not put just anyone on there, as I would not recommend just anyone to any of my readers.

Not that you should feel special, just to let you know that I do my best to maintain good relationships, etc… and I consider a blogroll something along those lines. (Which is why Dr. Gayle will not be removed, in hopes that he returns. He may never post again, but he does have a wealth of information already established.)

The Biblioblog Top 50 – July

Category: Blogging, TechnologyPolycarp @ 7:59 am

The Biblioblog Top 50 for the month of July is up! Congrats once more to Dr. Jim West, the coolest biblioblogger around. A special congrats to the movers and shakers such as Mike Whitenton (Ecce Homo) Robert C. Kashow (Tolle Lege!), Matthew Burgess (Confessions of a Bible Junkie), CD-Host (Church Discipline, No. 19), and Stephen Smuts (Biblical Paths, No. 29).

This has been a great month in the biblioblogosphere, with a lot of great dialog. Cannot wait until August!

Some of the Posts I Missed Today

Category: Blogging, Paula White, Weekly NewsPolycarp @ 11:59 pm

I was out all day, working, and didn’t get to read my daily dose of blogs – so, I thought that I might read a few now and share some with you. By the way, I am now collecting a retirement fund so that I can sit and read blogs all day long. Please feel free to donate.

3 New Biblioblogs Announced

Category: Technology, TheologyPolycarp @ 3:03 pm

Okay – I fully recognize that the term biblioblogger is a broad, and I am okay with that, but not when you apply it to anyone who merely mentions the bible in context of conspiracy theories. Today, The Complete List of Biblioblogs, was updated to include three more biblioblogs – two of which I regularly read.

New Testament Professor Brian Tucker of Michigan Theological Seminary has recently started a blog by the name of Identity Formation in the New Testament. Much of Brian’s work looks at the imperial context of the New Testament, in particular in relation to Paul’s letters. Thanks for getting in touch with us, Brian!

And…

We have also added the following blogs to The Complete List of Biblioblogs in recent days:

  • Church Discipline – which has been moved from the Related Blogs list, because CD-Host asked us, and because it seemed appropriate given everything this blogger has to say about bible translation.
  • Biblical Theology – by Prof Matt Harmon of Grace Theological Seminary, who has been blogging since the dawn of biblioblogging time, in 2006.

They mention one more, but personally, some people abuse the internet

Category: Blogging, Other Posts, TheologyPolycarp @ 7:59 pm

I would like to thank the Academy, and Ben Witherington for taking the time to switch over to a new format, meaning that I have climbed to number 2. I have switched myself, meaning that I will now fall dramatically, but that is okay. It gives me time to rebuild.

And the Award goes to…

Category: Blogging, Other PostsPolycarp @ 10:02 am

HisScrivener, who has come up with many ways to twist my chosen and sainted name (Polycarp), has bestowed upon me the knightly (and French sounding) award to the left. He lists the rules for this away, as:

Now, on with the show: honorees of this endowment should post the logo [check], nominate and link up to nine people worthy of the same [check below] and show the person who nominated you some love [check aforementioned]. HiScrivener’s choices are some mad taggers on the Wall, and lovely blog artists of their own

So, I reckon it’s my turn to nominate and link up to 9 of my favorite bloggers: In no particular order:

  • Wickle – I found him during the election cycle, and found that we are of like minds
  • Dr. Gayle – Dr. Gayle has been a true inspiration in my own biblical studies, going beyond the mere sounding of words to what is truly being said – or, at least that’s how I hear him.
  • Dr. West -Besides his lack luster response to a certain Hollywood production, Dr. West is dead on in many areas, and a true delight to read.
  • Hyperekperissou -This author has helped to fuel my hunger for Patristics
  • The Scripture Zealot -Jeff is an excellent example of a Christian blogger.
  • Wb Moore – He has become a friend as well, and I hope that he continues blogging. He has offered, offline and online, help and is consistently biblical in his answers
  • Are you Pondering… – Yes, I usually am pondering what he is pondering, even if I didn’t know I was pondering what he was pondering.
  • Ben Byerly – Has a heart of a missionary, serving in Africa, and brings to us the insight of that land
  • Joe Carr – Recently found Joe, and have grown to like his style. He pays attention to small things, and has a heart for big things.

No, I am not going into detail on each and everyone. I am just not that good of a writer to do so. I encourage you to go and read them, subscribe to them, and enjoy them.

The Southern Voice of Biblioblogs

Category: Blogging, Other PostsPolycarp @ 6:51 am

The kind folks at Bibliobloggers Top 50 the information gathered on The Complete List of Biblioblogs. According to them, a surprisingly large number of bibliobloggers (on this list) come from the American South. (I wonder what that does to the voice of these people)

The kind folks also did a follow-up study for New Testament centered bibliobloggers.

Gospel Tracts a Thing of the Past?

Category: Blogging, Debate/DiscussionPolycarp @ 6:57 am

Ben Simpson notes that the use of Gospel Tracts are almost outdated:

Over the past few years I’ve travelled to a handful of major U.S. cities, and during each visit, I manage to come across people handing out gospel tracts.  I’ve seen these people everywhere.  When there aren’t people to hand them out, sometimes I’ve found tracts lying in airport bathrooms.  My wife and I went on a trip about a year and a half ago where every time we had a layover I picked up a tract somewhere.  Everywhere I went these printed materials were ready to meet me.  Maybe I needed to repent and ask Jesus into my heart.  Yet, blessed assurance…

….

This week I was reading a book entitled Holy Conversation: Talking About God in Everyday Life by Richard Peace.  In his 3rd chapter, “Really Good News,” he asks this question:

I do wonder if tracts are not a thing of the past?  You don’t see tractlike materials used in any other areas of life these days.

I thought this was a good question for the blog world, considering this may be one of the most prevalent forums in our culture today in which people can express their beliefs on faith, politics, religion, and public life to a diverse and broad audience.  The blog world just might be the contemporary tract, though the format and the means of engagement are quite different.

Well, what do you think?

H’T”
