I want to thank Energion Publications for this review copy.

From the outset, several things are apparent. First, Dr. Robert C. McKibben is not writing to the hardened theologian, the pentecostal, or those with a balanced view of the work of the Spirit of God in the Church. Instead, he is writing a pastoral letter to those who he feels are abusing, or perhaps, not using properly, the gift of the Spirit.

First, the drawbacks. This is not a book written towards theologians, but one to be made use of the lay people. Because of this, I believe that those trying to find support for one position on the issue or another may not make use of this book. Simply put, I do not agree with several of his positions, as he takes the standard Billy Graham position on sanctification.

Holy Spirit works healing miracles, charismatic Christians say

Category: False ProphetsPolycarp @ 8:59 am

If only we could go on word of mouth…

Randy Clark, casual in jeans and spiky gray hair, has barely begun to lead the worship when some people up front are already “blasted by the Holy Spirit.”

Falling backward at his touch, they twitch and moan and grimace. A woman’s heels drum against the floor. Rapturous cries rise from the crowd. “More frequency. More. More,” Clark prays, above the chaos. “In advance of the miracles you’re bound to do among us tonight, we say thank you.”

IHOP ‘Awakening’ Continues to Expand

Category: IHOPPolycarp @ 7:59 pm

There is no small concern among some of us as the growing gathering in Kansas City at Mike Bickle’s International House of Pancakes Prayer. Lou Engle, the person who calls for martyrdom, is involved as is a growing list of ElijahList (read: Dominionists) participants, including Bill Johnson and John Arnott. Some have said that the infamous Todd Bentley has shown up as well, although not in any official capacity.

Thanks to Doug for this:

According to exhibition centre Excel, where staff are currently in a meeting debating whether to put on another pastor, he will not now be appearing.

Dominionism moves into the Catholic Church

Category: Joel's ArmyPolycarp @ 7:00 pm

Matt Sorger was featured on the Elijah List this week with a ‘word’ concerning the spread of Dominionism to the Catholic Church. A little while ago, Matt came out with a word on the clear water revival that was supposed to happen. I didn’t lean any credence to him then, and I will not now. What is surprising is that the Catholic Church would tangle with Dominionism again – does anyone still remember the Holy Roman Empire of the Middle Ages?

Seriously, though, although the exercise of spiritual gifts is good, it has to be done within the context of truth, and not as a means of manipulating people into a large force, political or religious and never both. Below is a portion of this ‘word’. Overall, for some it might be great to see the Catholic Church go through this, but considering the motivation behind it, I am not one of those people.

For those that study Dominionism, remember, this is part of their plan – to break into the mainline denominations with events like these and to place in their government their own people.

By the way, in case you are wondering, and I know you are – Catholics and Dominionists share a common view on eschatology – the Church will be in control to bring Christ back.

Rick Joyner – Satanist

Category: Bob Jones, Joel's Army, Rick JoynerPolycarp @ 11:06 am

The Local Pastor, who has produced a lot of these great videos, relates to us that in Rick’s book, The Final Quest, the false Apostle Claims,

  • To have eaten from the Tree of Life
  • Jesus is an angel named ‘Wisdom’
  • To have spoken to the deceased
  • A Civil War in the Church
  • To have more power than the Apostles
  • To have received the Apostle Paul’s ‘mantle’

Friends, don’t buy what Rick is selling. His incantations are meant only to bring about the darkness inside, and subscribes to some heinous theories, associating himself with the most foul of reprobates, such as Bob Jones, C. Peter Wagner. Tell me, what ‘god’ do you think that they are worshiping with this nonsense?

Further, these people want to export this cesspool of unrighteousness into your congregation.

People who are Blind: The Dudley and Lakeland Outpouring called Good.

Category: Todd BentleyPolycarp @ 8:49 am

I have not really posted anything on the so-called Dudley Outpouring, seeing in the same contemptuous light as I have seen the late Lakeland – garbage. As I was navigating my way through the blogosphere yesterday, I stumbled upon this statement:

After the outpouring in Lakeland, Dudley and around the world in 2008, what does 2009 hold? I truly believe that God wants to do even more, but that He plans to mature the church this year so that we can be carriers of revival, and enjoy the habitation of God rather than just visitation.

This was the group led by the British Todd B, Trevor Baker who has defended Todd as well as helped to bring the same type of antics to the British Isles. I posted on Dudley some time ago, but have sense forgotten all about it. The fact remains, however, that both ‘revival’ were false, filled with doctrinal perversion, cohabitating with all manners of dragons. How can anyone seriously give a second thought to anything associated with Todd Bentley? How can anyone call the landfill for sin that became Lakeland good for the Body of Christ unless the speaker is blind as well?

Still with the Holiness

Category: Holiness, TheologyPolycarp @ 3:14 pm

I have taken this quiz previously, so I thought that I might would take it to see if anything has changed. I am still 100% Holiness/Wesleyan,but my Neo Orthodox tendencies has moved up a bit – lot actually. I have no idea how that ‘Emergent/Post-modernism’ thing is so high, unless it’s my views on social action and politics. At least the Pentacostalism/Charimatic tendencies are still way down, but I gotta do something to bring them further down.

Of course, I would have to agree that I am heavily influenced by Wesley.

You Scored as Evangelical Holiness/Wesleyan You are an evangelical in the Wesleyan tradition. You believe that God’s grace enables you to choose to believe in him, even though you yourself are totally depraved. The gift of the Holy Spirit gives you assurance of your salvation, and he also enables you to live the life of obedience to which God has called us. You are influenced heavily by John Wesley and the Methodists.

C. Peter Wagner Fights The "Religious Spirit" (Rome, you, anyone but themselves)

Category: Joel's ArmyPolycarp @ 9:14 am

Bruce Wilson brings us more insight into C. Peter Wagner.

“We’re in the Second Apostolic Age,” declares C. Peter Wagner, “and the government of the church must be in place with apostles and prophets.” This new structure is an elaboration on the “Fivefold Ministry” concept in which there are new apostles, who exercise the authority of the Biblical apostles, and new prophets, who are empowered to make new prophecies which have the force of Biblical scripture. Wagner’s declaration, on the alleged Second Apostolic Age, is personally convenient because the former Fuller Theological Seminary church growth wunderkind has built, in his International Coalition of Apostles, what may constitute the largest network and political bloc  in the New Apostolic movement.

In this undated video segment recorded at an NAR conference, Peter Wagner describes the emergence of a “new wineskin”, which is the new church structure of the “Second Apostolic Age” that Wagner has declared began with the new millennium . “The biggest obstacle to changing something in your church…” Wagner tells his audience, is “the spirit of religion. See, there is a demonic spirit of religion… the spirit of religion is really nasty. Because it is one of the most subtle spirits in the whole kingdom of darkness.”

It is not difficult to read between the lines when these guys speak of the ‘religious spirit’. They want you to give up any preconceived notions of that Christianity is really about in order to accept their perverted doctrines – their doctrines of miracles and special words, etc…
