Martin Luther – Here I Stand

Category: ReformationPolycarp @ 9:59 am

Martin Luther, for all of his faults, and those who followed him, accomplished more than many who had gone before him. In refusing to bow to logical Tradition, he made a stand which could have cost him his life. Today is Reformation Day. Martin Luther on Baptismal Regeneration

Category: Baptism, ReformationPolycarp @ 7:59 am

In recent discussions on baptismal regeneration, a wholly unProtestant view, it seems, I mentioned Luther in an unrelated point (he was 34 when he challenged all of Rome, and my accuser stated that I simply could not say anything because my age, which is barely three years from Luther). Luther it seems, contrary to popular opinion, supported a notion of baptismal regeneration.

The Theological Declaration of Barmen

Category: Religion and PoliticsPolycarp @ 2:59 pm

While reading an unrelated work, I came across the mention of this pre-WW2 document which tried to prevent the Christian Churches in Germany from becoming the tools of Adolf Hitler who spouted Christian rhetoric to suit his purposes. These pro-Nazi churches were noticeably nationalistic in tone, and quickly allied themselves with the ruling authorities, causing no small distress to those which sought the separation of Church and State.
