Tim Adams of The Observer in a story in the lead-up to the release of the Michael Jackson documentary This Is It, also refers to Jackson’s religious experiences.
It was not the easiest path for a budding King of Pop to follow. In the services at Kingdom Hall, which Jackson attended four times a week with his mother, into his 20s, when he was in town, he would hear adamantine scripture: “Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolators, nor adulterers, nor effeminates, nor homosexuals, will inherit the kingdom of God.”

Friends, the world watches as the people of Iran, China, and Honduras fight for life and freedom, while the Darfur genocide goes on, and people starve in the richest country in the world – and Americans entrance themselves in the death of a pop icon. I am watching the Twitter feeds of ‘journalists’ and lay people alike. While many glue themselves to the Michael Jackson funeral, some are trying to uphold real news by twittering about Iran.
I try not to get too political on this blog, but this is beyond politics – it’s about priorities. Can you imagine the difference it would make in Appalachia, or the inner cities, or the rural areas, if the cable news networks would devote as much attention to poverty and other social ills as they have to the death and burial of Michael Jackson?
Can you imagine what would happen if journalists took the stand as the gentleman below?
I am not going to quote this article, but I hope that you will take the time to read it, and to pass it on.
What passes for real journalism these days is a travesty of what it should be:

Please…please let them try…
They have published fliers on their Web site with the dates and the times of the protests. The flier for the protest of his memorial service in Gary, Indiana, calls the memorial a “sodomite memorial.” On the flier about the protest of the funeral at Staples Center, the group refers to Michael as a “fag.” Both fliers read, “God Hates Fags, Fornicators, Pedophiles, Adulterers, Icons.” They go on to say, “Michael is dead. Deal with it.”

You know, people die everyday – people from every class, race, gender, age, creed, color, national origin. Take your pick. No ‘group’ will ever go a day without loosing someone.
The collective group known as ‘Hollywood’ has lost a few recently, including today, the pitchman, Billy Mays. When Michael Jackson died, the media coverage of anything useful, and important, stopped. Nothing was said of the issues in Iran, or the Waxman bill – just about Michael Jackson. Because, you know, dying celebrities takes precedence over men, women, and children dying in the cause of freedom.
I would have preferred the cable news networks give 24 hour coverage to Iran instead of Michael Jackson.
So, as I was looking over the Google Trends today, I noted that a hot search term today was:
Well, the answer is simple really -
And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, (Hebrews 9:27 NKJV)
People die, you know, and we should not trivialize that, but we have great issues of our age to deal with which should take precedence over the death of a few celebrities.
We will all die, but let us live for others until then.

The Sun is reporting that Michael Jackson, the once king of pop, has finalized his conversion to Islam, days before he is due in court to answer charges brought by a Sheik. Coincidence? I dunno, but maybe this means he will stop singing, which is truly a blessing to all mankind. I realize, of course, that this is not the usual topic of conversation on this blog, but it is Friday, and we all need a laugh anyway.
