“I think if we’d asked St. Paul what he thought about Aristotle and his scheme of the virtues, he would have said about it roughly what he said about the Jewish law: it is fine up to a point and as far as it goes, but it can’t actually give what it promises. It’s like a signpost pointing in more or less the right direction (though it will need some adjustment), but without a road that actually goes there” (36).
An Anglican bishop has said that though his mother had told him repeatedly in the past that she wanted to die, she is now happy to be alive and he is grateful she didn’t kill herself, reports the Christian Institute.
Bishop of Durham, Dr. Tom Wright, the fourth most senior prelate in the Church of England, was speaking during a House of Lords debate earlier this month on whether it was necessary to have an independent inquiry into assisted suicide, when he revealed that his mother had told him several times that she “just wanted to go to sleep and not wake up.”
T.C., a fine biblioblogger, defines repentance and righteousness within the New Perspectives on Paul framework, at least according to Bishop N.T. Wright:
I am currently reading Dunn’s work (hope to post a review on Monday), so when I came across this video, I thought it was interesting. Thanks to Euangelion for the tip.
Publisher’s Description: In this third volume in the Library of Biblical Theology series, James D.G. Dunn ranges widely across the literature of the New Testament to describe the essential elements of the early church’s belief and practice. Eschatology, grace, law and gospel, discipleship, Israel and the church, faith and works, and most especially incarnation, atonement, and resurrection; Dunn places these and other themes in conversation with the contemporary church’s work of understanding its faith and life in relation to God’s self-revelation in Jesus Christ.
I have found myself really coming to like these types of posts. It allows me to say more with less. After all, the best commentary to this world is actions that we see.
As I posted earlier… A response to Todd’s defense letter. Of course, you will always have those people that defend him against scripture and sanity. And more in Todd and the Glass Eyeball
And what is Friday without a video about ole Todd…Notice the children…
Or for those not convinced yet that Todd is a devil…
And even with all of the Todd garbage, this still makes me sick, not that I put much faith the those apostates, I mean ‘apostles‘.
