Richard Leroy Walters gets a bit more shocking -

An article in the online newsletter of a Catholic mission in Phoenix revealed that Walters died two years ago at the age of 76. He left an estate worth about $4 million. Along with the money he left for NPR, Walters also left money for the mission.

Wait…it’s not a joke? Yep, that’s right. NPR – that bastion of liberal thought has paid for a wiccan prayer. Personally, it seems like a story about nothing.

Examining Palin's Pentecostal Background

Category: Religious NewsPolycarp @ 8:57 pm

Examining Palin’s Pentecostal Background : NPR.

First, I am not Pentecostal – Oneness or otherwise. Second, I don’t care what religion a candidate has or pretends to have. What I do care about is the way the media is treating the ‘Pentecostalism’ of this said candidate. I was watching Keith Olbermann last night an he kept stressing that this candidate speaks in tongues. She speaks in tongues. Yes, that’s right, she speaks-in-tongues. Granted, even her pastor has denied hearing her speak in tongues, but really, is that a major political issue?

Is our religious freedom under attack? No, not by laws and legal oppression, but by mockery? I believe in speaking in tongues, although I take Paul’s position. Can you imagine any in the media mocking Judaism or Islam the way that they are mocking Pentecostalism? (Anyone remember the cartoons of Muhammad in Denmark?) This is why I am very much against portraying these candidates as religious figures. Instead of mocking Pentecostalism – by that is included anyone who speaks in tongues – they should focus on other things, like Joel’s Army and the modern charismatic/prophetic movement.

Now, there is a rumor that she was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ; however, bare in mind my friends, if the one baptizing is not correct, then it doesn’t matter how you were baptized. Would you let a Hindu baptize you, even if he baptized you in the name of Jesus Christ?

Returning to the idea that it is okay to attack conservative Christians… Our national culture is consistently beginning to allow attacks on the person who holds the religion. It is a big deal in the presidential election if she speaks in tongues? Or is it an attempt to denigrate Christianity across the board or just certain segments of it, like the conservative side. It is the stance of the culture to degrade anyone that actually has a stance based on religion and beliefs in a God that is black and white and is still active in this world?

P.S. – We always have to be on guard against the encroachment on civil liberties. Mockery is a little step to a big fight.
