J. Lee Grady Stepped Down from Charisma

Category: Todd BentleyPolycarp @ 8:59 am

To critics that ragged Grady for continuing his employment years after beginning the exposing and asking the hard questions?

Can you cheer now since in your mindset, Grady has now ‘crossed the (your) line’ from being a ‘hypocrite’ to ’seeing the light’?

No, I reckon I don’t mind children experiencing God, but this takes the cake:

Getting Back to ‘Classic’ Christianity

Category: Joel's ArmyPolycarp @ 7:59 am

J. Lee Grady recently posted something that struck me as odd coming from the man who constantly seeks new things, new movements. Maybe something is going on with him?

When I read their words I feel much the same way I did after hearing my grandparents’ voices on that old tape. I feel as if I am tapping into a realm of spirituality that is on the verge of extinction.

Paula White, the New Old Pastor of WOW (sans Bishop Randy) has a Word for you

Category: Paula WhitePolycarp @ 7:59 am

eBlast – July 14, 2009 – Pastor Paula White from Without Walls Int’l Church on Vimeo.

Not to pick on the WOW Pastor, but isn’t that video a little, oh, general? What if, say, Bin Laden was watching it? Do you really think God wants to see him increased? Maybe she should be more selective with who she ‘increases.’

The Soon Coming of the Dominionists – Quantum Physics and Militancy

Category: Bob Jones, IHOP, Joel's Army, Kim Clement, Rick Joyner, Todd BentleyPolycarp @ 11:59 pm

With the seemingly quick fall of the the soon to be former Alaska Governor, I have retaken an interest in Dominionism. It started with exploring the underpinnings of Todd Bentley, his connection with others, and finally, with full blown Dominionism. Domionism is simple – they believe that they must take over seven mountains of culture, all cultures, including government (No, seriously, they are public about this stuff – nothing tinfoil about it), including our government. During the campaign, they were campaigning (prophesying) hard that Sarah Palin would be in the White House come January. Well, they were slightly off.

Two Articles on the Thriving Prosperity Gospel

Category: Kenneth Copeland, Paula WhitePolycarp @ 11:37 pm

First, from here:

Given that so many powerful Pentecostals and Charismatics, like Senator John Ensign and Sarah Palin, are embroiled in high profile scandals, one might expect to hear more about the movements that unite them. Anthea Butler, a leading scholar on Pentecostalism and American religious history, traces the various movements and their theologies of wealth, healing and dominion.

And then, from here:

I was reading this piece in Slate asking how the Prosperity Gospel — the idea that God wants you to get rich, if you want to — is faring in hard times, and thinking, “This is really good and well-informed; wonder who wrote it?” Turns out it’s my friend and former Dallas Morning News intern Clint Rainey. Check it out. Excerpt:

The Prosperity Gospel is not my theology, nor will you see me step foot inside the door at a megachurch which teaches such things – but what really bothers me are those people which are taken advantage of. That is why I continue to post of this stuff.

The Ponzi Prosperity Gospel

Category: False ProphetsPolycarp @ 6:59 am

Yep – finally a better name than ‘Prosperity Gospel’.

Today we shriek as we hear of financial scams, corporate greed, and virtually anything money-related tha isn’t entirely on the up-and-up. While religion has generally been a help in these economically difficult times, there is one segment of Christianity that is scamming as many as they can. Those who have ears (and debt) let them hear.

The Prosperity Gospel, also known as a facet of the Word of Faith movement (a louder voice in Pentecostalism), has been writing checks with its lips that’s its theology can’t cash. Last year’s Pew Foundation mega-poll, which surveyed nearly 35,000 people (one of the largest religion polls ever accomplished), revealed a few interesting facts about Christians in the Pentecostal tradition, among them:

• Pentecostals have the lowest incomes of any other Christian denomination.
• Pentecostals have the least education of any other Christian denomination. The results show that Pentecostals have the most high school dropouts, the fewest college graduates, and the fewest post-graduates. But the most interesting thing is that they earn the least annual income of any other Christian tradition polled. This is shocking, considering that a main feature in popular Pentecostalism is the Prosperity Gospel, where church members are promised that God will make them rich beyond their wildest dreams if they tithe generously and believe that they will receive the money.

Todd Bentley's Divorce from Reality (Video Series)

Category: Joel's Army, Rick Joyner, Todd BentleyPolycarp @ 7:00 pm

Why are we staying with this? Because, it is important not to let those that have come to see the light on Todd forget from whence they came. Further, considering that Rick Joyner is one of the big ‘Apostles’ of the New Apostolic Reformation, it is important that we show just how unapostolic this man really is.

The latest videos from the friends of shamed Canadian evangelist Todd Bentley show that his divorce and instantaneous remarriage is central to their thinking as they seek to “restore” him to ministry. Evidently, they hope that he will be the first of thousands, if not millions, to be restored in this way.

Mr. Bentley, they are determined, will be making a comeback….and if his friends have to change the beliefs of millions of Christians about marriage and divorce to do so, that is merely incidental.

One feature of the developing restoration campaign may be doing the evangelist himself a disservice. Another feature of the campaign may do a disservice to the Christian church as a whole, particularly the charismatic Christian subculture that Mr. Bentley and his friends are in a position to most influence.

You may recall that Mr. Bentley separated from his first wife Shonnah immediately after the collapse of his internationally famous revival in Lakeland, Florida, last summer. The separation was attributed to an “affair” that he had been conducting with Jessa Hasbrook, whom he married shortly after his divorce was finalized with his first wife.

Although there are several reasons to view Mr. Bentley and the fruit of his revival with dismay, it appears that Mr. Bentley’s friends–led by his mentor, U.S. charismatic evangelist Rick Joyner–see his instant trophy wife as the biggest obstacle to his being restored, as their series of videos thus far have concentrated on Mr. Bentley’s divorce and the resulting fallout.

Charismatic Character Clash – Joyner/Bentley debate continues

Category: Rick Joyner, Todd BentleyPolycarp @ 10:59 am

Christianity Today is entering into the fray that Rick Joyner and J. Lee Grady is creating.

After ducking scrutiny that followed the Lakeland Revival’s abrupt end in August 2008, Todd Bentley resurfaced this month. The Canadian Pentecostal disappeared from the public eye in August after filing for separation from his wife. Issuing a statement through the pastor overseeing his restoration process, Bentley said he was “sorry for the hurt and confusion that my decisions have caused the body of Christ.” He indicated that he was pursuing a return to ministry in order to “fulfill God’s call on my life.”
