Palin’s God vs. Obama’s God

Category: Religion and PoliticsPolycarp @ 7:41 pm

I have very few that I can write or say words to say about this type of mentality, very few, and if I think them of more, I have to repent of thinking those thoughts:

Are Paula White and Creflo Dollar still Pentecostals?

Category: Joel Osteen, Kenneth Copeland, Paula WhitePolycarp @ 10:59 pm

In this chronicle of mutations within the Pentecostal movement, we learn to distinguish among the Prosperity Gospel, Word of Faith, and New Apostolic Movements — and we learn why it matters.

One of the worse ‘mutations’ of Pentecostalism is the Prosperity Gospel -

2 Articles on Facebook and Religion

Category: Religion and Politics, TechnologyPolycarp @ 7:59 pm

First here:

After spending hours upon hours on Facebook for this fun story about all the crazy/intriguing things people list as their religion on Facebook, I started wondering what DC’s political heavyweights put on their Facebook pages. How does Obama (or more likely his staffers) categorize his beliefs? For that matter, what did South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford list as “religious views”? What about Bill Clinton, Sarah Palin or John McCain?

Two Articles on the Thriving Prosperity Gospel

Category: Kenneth Copeland, Paula WhitePolycarp @ 11:37 pm

First, from here:

Given that so many powerful Pentecostals and Charismatics, like Senator John Ensign and Sarah Palin, are embroiled in high profile scandals, one might expect to hear more about the movements that unite them. Anthea Butler, a leading scholar on Pentecostalism and American religious history, traces the various movements and their theologies of wealth, healing and dominion.

And then, from here:

I was reading this piece in Slate asking how the Prosperity Gospel — the idea that God wants you to get rich, if you want to — is faring in hard times, and thinking, “This is really good and well-informed; wonder who wrote it?” Turns out it’s my friend and former Dallas Morning News intern Clint Rainey. Check it out. Excerpt:

The Prosperity Gospel is not my theology, nor will you see me step foot inside the door at a megachurch which teaches such things – but what really bothers me are those people which are taken advantage of. That is why I continue to post of this stuff.

Rick Joyner says God endorses Sarah Palin for President

Category: Religion and Politics, Rick JoynerPolycarp @ 7:00 pm

From the video here.

Here is a partial transcript of that Rick Joyner then says -

“It really caught my attention that the congresswomen in that meeting had extraordinary authority, and spiritual authority as well as authority. I thought these are truly remarkable leaders … and some of them you are going to hear about, some of them, one of them, I have seen on the news constantly doing interviews and all - that was Michele Bachman? . I was taken by her at first, this girl really has something on her.

And I spent a while this week talking to Sarah Palin on the phone …

“… and trying to encourage her, tell her how much we appreciated the incredible campaign that she ran. You know this lady really got beat up by the press and to me it was shocking the bias and how the other side would say the silliest things you could imagine and not even get a mention on it, and things Sarah Palin said was just taken out of context. But in one sense that really encouraged me and it encouraged me that the democrats have their people up in Alaska right now watching her every move trying to find anything they can just hammer her on and make it out in a negative sense. And they are obviously extremely threatened by her and I believe rightly so. I believe there’s a spiritual authority and calling on Governor Palin and it is extraordinary, and I told her in no uncertain terms that I appreciate her heart for Alaska – and she truly has a heart for Alaska, I mean she is just in love with her state and we should all be that way. She wants to be the best governor she can and do the best job for the Alaskan people, and that is certainly wonderful but I believe she has a national calling on her life. I felt that when I first saw her on the television. When I was walking through the room I didn’t even know who she was, it was when John McCain was entering and using her as a running mate, but she was already speaking and I didn’t even know who she was but I felt right away I was listening to the president of the United States and it is just a strange feeling. I have prophetic feelings like that and they come true

“… and even though I didn’t share publicly, I shared it with a number of people in the last few years and I felt the same way when I heard Obama speak at the democratic convention. This guy has a call on his life ans authority whether you think its good or evil or what he’s doing up there. And I believe he is, and I’m still praying for the man to get a revelation, to get godly counsel. I’m deeply concerned about the way things are going and the ways things are being run up in Washington. And the bills that are being passed, I cannot even connect with them, I cannot understand what they are trying to do. But I’m not giving up on the man, I’m not giving up on Sarah Palin either.

And the reason that I’m sharing that with you is that we all need to – you know, when the press goes after someone like that, or when the accuser goes after someone like that – you know, I don’t think we need to let them win. I don’t think we need to let the media win and just beat someone down like that. We’ve let it happen in the past – some of our really good people. I’ve met Dan Quayle, I knew him a little bit. He is a brilliant man, even the democrats in the senate said he was a brilliant senator, yet the media pasted him as some buffoon. And it just wiped out his career. I think he could have been an incredible public servant.

We cannot allow the media to win with Sarah Palin. I don’t believe that. I’m gonna stand up and I want to encourage her but encourage you to. We need somebody like her and … but it really got my attention with these congresswomen. It seems to be an extraordinary authority coming on women for leadership and government. And I know a lot of Christians don’t believe women should carry that kind of authority but I do. I personally do. I really believe we need some more Margaret Thatchers. And I believe… that’s what I’ve been praying for.. for the Lord to raise up….I look forward to the next woman president. I’m not ashamed of that.

I think we’ve got some extraordinary leaders raising up and in these times when there seems such a void of leadership it may be coming through places and people we’re not expecting. And I’m sharing this trying to encourage you to open the eyes of your heart, of your eyes, I want the Lord’s leadership whoever it comes through and I think we’re going to have some extraordinary women to arise for leadership for our country and I’m excite about it …”

Now, let me ask you a question – do you really want the likes of Rick Joyner giving counsel to any of our elected leaders?

Without a Prayer – Sarah Palin remarks on the McCain Campaign's lack of prayer preparation

Category: Religion and PoliticsPolycarp @ 10:00 pm

The News Media is a buzz with the latest from the Palin 2012 camp. I have a follow up post tomorrow that goes along with this.

Some of Sarah Palin’s former campaign aides are frustrated with the Alaska governor for remarking in a lengthy, freewheeling speech that she had refused to pray with them before last October’s vice presidential debate.

Palin told the story in a speech to a GOP dinner in Alaska last Friday.

“So I’m looking around for somebody to pray with, I just need maybe a little help, maybe a little extra,” she said of the moments before the debate. “And the McCain campaign, love ‘em, you know, they’re a lot of people around me, but nobody I could find that I wanted to hold hands with and pray.”

Bristol Palin: Best Option is Abstinence

Category: Religious NewsPolycarp @ 6:41 pm

After becoming a young mother in December, Bristol Palin, the 18-year-old daughter of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, wants to be an advocate to prevent teen pregnancy.

During her first interview since giving birth to her son Tripp, Bristol Palin said having a child is not “glamorous” and repeatedly advised teens to “just wait 10 years” to have a baby because it is “so much easier.
