Non-blogging Blogger Jim West to host Biblioblogging Carnival

Category: BibliobloggingPolycarp @ 12:01 pm

Remember Jim West? Hard to remember, but some time ago he was the number 1 biblioblogger in the world – and still to this day, he is my heart – and then he quit (again) vowing (again) never to return (again). He has since spent the last few months non-blogging blogging (again) or something like that. Anyway, he is going to host the next biblioblog carnival (again).

I have a good idea what made Zwingli depressed

Category: Other PostsPolycarp @ 12:59 pm

If you read a few of his songs which he wrote, you will notice that Zwingli was singing about some rather dark and disturbing things. The good Doctor has provided us with a few entries. Yuck!

Do You Know Where You Imaginary Santa Is?

Category: Other PostsPolycarp @ 9:15 am

That’s right – NORAD (not the real one, I hope) is tracking the big man in the red sit (red, at least since Coca-Cola marketed him) and his eight flying reindeer (ummmm…Christmas deer…) carrying presents for boys and girls (did they pay for them? I doubt it. Santa is a Socialist, redistributing wealth and giving to kids who don’t deserve it and haven’t earned it and what’s more, he is into globalization. Commie.). Anyway, you can find the tracker here.

Papers I am likely to Submit to the SBL

Category: Other PostsPolycarp @ 3:57 pm

Since I am now a member of the Society of Biblical Literature and, contrary to some opinions, a biblioblogger,  I’ve been thinking about some of the papers I would like to submit for next year’s conference. You know, as part of the affiliate program.

Tabloid Post of the West – Is the End of Jim West In Sight?

Category: Other PostsPolycarp @ 8:38 pm

Thanks to Alexa’s lack of counting – it is a conspiracy for sure, like – it will not be this month…but there are more than one way to skin a cat (the cat being Jim West)

You might be a Lutheran if…

Category: Other PostsPolycarp @ 11:59 am

…you only serve Jell-O in the proper liturgical color for the season.

…you didn’t know chow mein noodles were a Chinese food.

…when someone mentions red and green (in terms of Christmas), you immediately think of a battle over hymnals.

…during the entire service you hold your hymnal open but never look down at it.

Tertullian on Halloween and Fall Festivals

Category: TertullianPolycarp @ 12:59 pm

I know, I know…Tertullian didn’t write about Halloween, but what if he did? Growing up, the only local congregations who had Fall Festivals were Catholic Churches. Now, everyone has them. For me, no, but I reckon, to each his or her own.
