Texas to Oust the Jew(ish Republican)

And in breaking news today, we turn to the Great State of Texas where –
The race to lead the Texas House of Representatives has taken a religious turn, with some conservatives in the state suggesting that the speaker of the House, who is a Jewish Republican, should be replaced by a “Christian conservative.”
Over the past month, in a spate of e-mails and political pitches, conservative opponents of incumbent Speaker Joe Straus have said they want him replaced not because of his Jewish religion, but because of his betrayal of Republican principles.
But several of Straus’ critics have noted how important it is that a Christian be named to take his place. These discussions have been made public by a series of media reports, drawing condemnation from some corners and making others in the GOP more than a bit uncomfortable.

“We elected a house with Christian, conservative values. We now want a true Christian, conservative running it,” Cook said in the Nov. 30 e-mail, first published by the Texas Observer.

Superbowl and Texas, the den of depravity

It’s the seedy side of the Super Bowl. While thousands of fans flock to whichever city each Super Bowl is held, so do sex traffickers. The problem of sex trafficking is already huge in Texas. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services The state may account for 25% of all human trafficking victims, with thousands women and children trafficked in and through the state each year. Not all of them are forced into sex slavery. Some are forced into other work. But Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott says the problem is big- and getting worse. He’s convened a Human Trafficking Prevention Task Force which is now focusing its efforts on making sure Super Bowl 2011 in Arlington doesn’t signal open season for sex trafficking.
A pretty eye opening statistic, if you ask me.

What the Texas Board of Ed doesn’t get about teaching Civilizations

Tell me – what is the point about teaching children the things that they should already know? In teaching about (other) civilizations, why is Texas demanding that students learn more about Christianity, which is nominally a part of American culture and Western Civilization, and less about Islam, which is nominally a part of our foreseeable future, either in war or economic outreach?I send my children to school to learn about things that they don’t know. And frankly, I don’t want them learning about Christianity from a public school textbook.
Because Christianity wasn’t given equal time in a book that teaches American students about World civilizations, they are going to pass a resolution condemning the books. Lovely. I wonder how much time and money of the tax payers will be wasted to do something so laden with politics. This is an election year tactic.
Again, my children are growing up Christian. It is my duty as a parent to not rely upon either the State or Federal government to teach my children about my religion. Silly Liberals, always wanting to rely upon the government now… oh wait, they are Conservatives you say? Surely not.
U.S. History – Tex-a-zonia style

1660-1800–Triangular Atlantic trade continues to bring wealth and prosperity to America while giving opportunities to new immigrants.

1788–The United States Constitution is signed as a document to stand for all time, inspired by God, and never to be changed.

1860s-1900s–The Gilded Age of prosperity. American capitalism provides opportunities for all people to grow wealthy, secure, and happy. Liberals and Progressives begin working against American freedom and capitalism by forming unions, demanding unfair compensation from their employers, limiting the rights of children to work in factories, and imposing restrictive regulations for the “safety” of employees. Many brave men die fighting Communist influenced unions as they riot in America’s cities.
1861-1865–Civil War fought because of an overreaching, tyrannical federal government and its desire to limit the freedoms of all Americans. 620,000 people die including many brave and noble black Americans who fought on the side of the Confederacy. Northerners and Southerners eventually find common ground through Redemption and move forward as brothers and sisters in the USA.
….
1954–Brown v. Board of Education removes the parental right to send children to the schools of their choice and with the company they desire. A dangerous and unconstitutional era of activist Supreme Court decisions begins.

Eh?
At least we can agree on one thing: let’s not rewrite history.
But that appears to be all that the right-wing members on the Texas State Board of Education want to do. We’ve already been through this once with the Texas science standards last year, and now they want to use our social studies classes as the newest platform to push their agenda.
It all began when the board selected well-known Religious Right activists to sit on the six-member social studies curriculum review panel: David Barton of Wallbuilders and Peter Marshall of Peter Marshall Ministries. Barton, who has no credentials as a historian, runs a propaganda organization that issues a steady stream of books, videos, DVDs, pamphlets and other materials designed to “prove” the United States was founded to be Christian country.

Will the Texas Textbook Decision Force More to Homeschooling?

For a while, some of the rationale behind some homeschooling communities is the fear of liberal biases in textbooks, etc… now, conservatives are exerted their biases into the text books of our school children. If you can be objective about this, one will note that biases on either side are simply wrong, further, if you can remain objective, you will find many of these ‘facts’ being taught very objectionable. You can find the entire story here, but below are some highlights. One of the things we have to realize is that as Texas goes, so does the nation. Find more here as well.
